As I walked by a classroom filled with Kindergartners who were being supervised by a staff member:
"Ok, two plus three is...?
STOP USING YOUR HANDS. WE DON'T USE OUR FINGERS TO SOLVE MATH PROBLEMS!"
The fourth grader in me who struggled with math and used her hands wanted to physically harm this person. The developmental psychologist in me died a little inside.
you revive that developmental psychologist right now. that staff member has no business teaching children. one of the reasons God gave us ten fingers is to help us count and do math until our brains develop enough to move forward with out using fingers. there are adults that use fingers for math. I cannot fathom how much the teaching in our school system has deteriorated. Stand up for what you know is right. Fingers are for counting!!!!
